Unveiling the Untapped Potentials Of Nigerians In Diaspora

Last week, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs Matters, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa who is also the Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Diaspora Commission hosted a 3-day Diaspora Investment Summit in conjunction with Nigerian Diaspora Alumni Network (NIDAN) from 27th – 29th November 2018.

The summit had members of the National Assembly, serving Ministers of Agriculture, External Affairs, Power, Works & Housing, Heads of Government Agencies at Federal and State levels, the organised private sector, members of the Diplomatic corps, investors in Nigeria and beyond, members of Nigerian Diaspora Alumni Network etc. in attendance amongst others.

The keynote address was delivered by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who represented the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari at the event.

Speakers and moderators repeatedly praised the efforts of the present administration in making the dream of a diaspora summit possible and for the signing of the bill creating the Nigerian Diaspora Commission. They believed that Government has laid the much-needed foundation for this sector which they agreed will expand and impact positively on the economy of Nigeria.

DIBIDA was represented at the Summit by Engr. K.C. Onyema, one of the directors of DIBIDA and Nsikak Mbride, the Operations Manager of DIBIDA.

Commenting on the value of the Summit to DIBIDA, Mr Nsikak stated that he was energized by the enormous amount of contacts he picked up for follow-up. He reported that many Diasporians expressed serious interest in partnering with DIBIDA to provide services to Nigerians in the diaspora and at home.
